Our Mission
Mental Health Services for the Frontline
At CODE-4 Counseling, our mission is to empower and support the mental well-being of our community's public safety professionals. We are dedicated to delivering specialized and empathetic mental health care to emergency responders, healthcare workers, and their families. Through our unique blend of expertise and personal experience, we strive to bridge the gap between the demands of their profession and their personal well-being. Our aim is to ensure that those who selflessly protect and serve our communities receive the comprehensive care and unwavering support they rightfully deserve.
We’ve Got Your Back!
Established in September 2017, Code-4 Counseling emerged as a beacon of specialized mental wellness support, exclusively designed for those who serve on the frontlines within our communities. Guided by Dr. Sara Metz, a highly regarded public safety psychologist and consultant, this practice swiftly carved a distinctive niche in the field of public safety mental health.
Dr. Sara's decade-long experience, coupled with her understanding of the intricate challenges faced by emergency responders and their families, formed the bedrock of the organization's principles. Recognizing the profound trust essential in this line of work, Code-4 Counseling was established to build enduring relationships with emergency responders, their families, and police and fire agencies, particularly across the Front Range.
In the past six years, Code-4 Counseling has developed a comprehensive spectrum of services:
1. Individual and Couples Counseling: Providing a secure environment for responders and their loved ones to navigate the emotional and psychological challenges unique to their roles.
2. Mental Wellness Checkups: Regular evaluations ensure that those serving on the frontline maintain their mental health, even amidst the most challenging circumstances.
3. Peer Support Supervision and Critical Incident Response: Recognizing the significance of immediate, peer-based support in high-pressure environments and during significant incidents.
4. In-service Training: Dr. Metz's natural charisma and expertise are channeled into engaging training sessions filled with laughter, shared experiences, and practical knowledge. These sessions equip agencies with tools for communication, stress management, critical incident recovery, and overall mental wellness.
5. Agency Wellness Program Development & Support: Dr. Metz offers consultancy services, leveraging her comprehensive understanding of the challenges agencies face in establishing wellness programs. She streamlines the process, making it more accessible for departments to integrate wellness initiatives, even when resources may be limited.
From its inception until now, Code-4 Counseling has made a significant impact. Supporting over 60 public safety organizations is a testament to the trust, quality, and essential nature of their services. Each passing day sees them continuing their mission to prioritize and champion the mental well-being of those who safeguard our communities.
Dedicated professionals support CODE-4, each contributing their unique expertise to create an incredible team. This team transcends academic credentials, enriched by real-world experiences that truly set Code-4 apart. Within this dynamic team, you'll find counselors who have worn the law enforcement badge, others who have valiantly served our nation in the military, and some who have been the reassuring voice at the end of a dispatch call. These firsthand experiences in these intense professions are not merely badges of honor but invaluable assets integrated into therapy sessions and wellness education.
These individual strengths are further amplified through numerous strategic partnerships that Code-4 has nurtured over the years. These alliances stand as a testament to the practice's unwavering commitment to providing an unmatched caliber of care, ensuring that their clients are not only heard but deeply understood and supported on their journeys toward mental wellness.
